GateCity Church has a counseling center on site - Cumberland Counseling Center. We believe our mental health is the foundation on which we view and relate to everything: ourselves, the world around us, and even God. We know that trauma and wounds from our past will greatly impact how we relate to a good, heavenly Father. If you are struggling with your mental health, we are ready to confidentially work with you, walking alongside you as you heal, grow, and get transformed into more of who you were meant to be. Reach out any time.

No longer do we want to only refer outside of the Church for counseling, potentially sending the message that “your mess doesn’t belong here.” You belong here.

Services Offered:

Individual Counseling for adults, teens & adolesents, Family Counseling, Marital & Relationship Counseling, Pre-marital Counseling, Supportive/Therapeutic Groups, Periodic Workshops & Seminars

Through our counseling center, we can treat things like anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relational issues, and more.

Katherine Kessler, LMSW

Katherine Kessler, LMSW

I am newly-wed to my incredible husband, Stephen, and I have been an active community member at the House of Prayer for several years. It has been a joy for me to see the Lord move and to encounter Him in deep ways through GateCity Church, the Prayer Room, and our community here!

Serving as the Site Director and a Clinical Counselor with Cumberland Counseling has been an honor for me, as I am passionate about seeing individuals find wholeness and healing by connecting with God and discovering their true identity and purpose in life. I believe in providing a space of authenticity, empathy, and safety for my clients in order to develop a deep therapeutic connection, explore emotions, uncover new perspectives and develop helpful tools that allow for ongoing growth and healing.

FAQs

Who is providing counseling services?

We have a team of 6 licensed, professional therapists who are ready to meet with you in a safe and confidential setting, either virtually or in person at our GateCity counseling office. You can see bios about each of our therapists on our Cumberland Counseling Centers website.

Are the counseling sessions free? Do you accept insurance?

We do charge a session fee, and you can get more information about this by reaching out to our Site Director, Katherine Kessler.

At this time, however, we don’t accept insurance for several reasons: one of which is that the insurance company would tell us how many sessions we have with our client. That is something we don’t feel comfortable with at this time, as our work is incredibly intimate and relational and something we don't feel an insurance company should be speaking into.

How do I connect with a therapist?

See our website cumberlandcenters.org to complete a contact form or reach out by emailing Katherine Kessler at counseling@gatecityatl.com.
